Brainerd Cherokee Nation July 17th 1829 Respected Madam, As your dear cousin is anxious that we should write before vacation, I will spend a short time for the purpose. Our letters must be short for want of room. We love Miss Sawyer as our former teacher, and I hope that we shall try to remember all that she learnt us. Though she is not with us she wishes us to improve and be useful members of Society. May we be grateful to her for her labors and to all others likewise. I think the school improves every year. The principle studies of our school are Reading, Spelling, Writing, Arithmetic, Woodbridge's, geography, &c. When the scholars leave to visit their friends a short time, I expect to stay with the family and assist them in work. I do not expect to attend school after this season but I have thought best to live with the family and attend to domestic concern and other things which will be useful. I understand that New Ipswich joins Rindge. I have written to Dr. Preston's wife my present teacher's cousin who lives in New Jersey. I love to write to our teachers friends and love to hear from them I hope you will write to me as soon as convenient. From your young friend, Nancy Reece
