The enclosed letter, which please have signed and returned to me, was received by last mail. Bankhead? has been behaving very badly all this year - has been "on the ragged edge" of a drunk a larger part of the time, when anything was required of him. Mackenzie has had him in arrest twice. He released him from arrest on a promise of reform, to enable him to go on the Expedition with him, and he (B) took the column over from Clark to McKavett, where it arrived the same day with us. |
