1839 July 2.continued. something may be done; yet he usually fears all their efforts will be unavailing, under such exasperated feelings as both parties there manifest: he has never seen a time on that frontier requiring such vigilance and so great a necessity for a strong military force. He will remain till he sees an adjustment & till his presence can no longer avail any thing.
