February, TUESDAY, 24. 1863. Pleasant day. Quite a fire in town. Learned of a fight at Greenville & that Maj Muddy was killed. Sent up the Regiment 3d Brigade Geno Grant came up today. Rode over to the 2nd Brigade & made a pleasant unclear call returned unclear
WEDNESDAY, 25. Learn that Maj Mudd was not killed as was reported. Regiments returned from up the river. Our forces successful. Rained some. Heavy shower. Learned that a big boat towed?? two mortar boats by the batteries of Vicksburg. Think I heard the firing in the night last night
