There was quite a blow last evening. Mr. Tilford of Lexington came to see us & his son. We went to Unitarian Church Lunch Mr. Morris - it is quite cool this morning. I wrote to Pa last night. I will write to day to Brother & Rhoda. The Lake is very rough this morning. Many Vessels are in and the little [[Trays??]] busy at work. I rode this morning at five. all of us well - Ella & 2 little Hiltons came to see us - we all went down from for a walk - great deal of excitement in town. news from Eastern Virginia [[unclear]] at [[Manressa??]] Junction - the Government troops defeated and driven back - loss severe - Confederate Army Victorious - glorious news for the South. Mr. Tilford John & Octavius called to see us. | |||

A lovely morning, we [[unclear]] at fine. Went with Belle & Eva to Depot expecting to meet Siss & family, but they did not arrive. Ella Badger & [[Licinia?]] Hilton came to see me took lunch line, and then I went down street to Mr. Bager's Office - returned Lorrie with him. Mr. Hilton & [[Octavia??]] to dinner. Mr. Redmond & daughter called to see me. Organ Man played for children. I bought new shoes for baby of Eva after. Tea called on Mr. Thomas Hoyne - she not at Home. | |||

Children rode at five this morning. We all very well. Sure was beautifully this morning. I will write to Ma to day. Mr. Tilford is coming to dine with us - in his now three O Clock and looks like rain. The air of this Lake is making my children very brown - they were exceedingly fair. Children went out walking late. | |||

This is a bright day. At 2 Oclock we are invited by Mr. Heck to visit his Gallery of paintings. We will have early dinner then we will go out to the Farm and see Father Badger. At 3 we went to the Gallery of Paintings then to the Farm returned late. Mr. Grant Bently called to see me. | |||

It rained this morning at [[fine?]] when i wrote - we are all very well. I played a long [[unclear]] on the Piano. Belle received a letter from [[Freidricka]]. it pounded rain all afternoon. Mr Badger went to Hotel to see Mr. Heith of Covington. We all very well children [[ramp??]] out a great deal. Pauline is [[crocheting?]] 2 pair of slippers for me to give to my little Neices. | |||

It rained last night and threatened to do so to day - it rain was very severe. Hail fell in large quantity - very large. [[Unclear]] yesterday afternoon. Been at home all day. Mr. Walker & daughter came to see me. it rained again this afternoon good. We unpacked our china to night. I received a letter from David he thinks they will leave for here to day at two - that will bring them tomorrow. | |||

It looked very much like rain this Morning. We all were dressed at five and Mr. Badger myself Belle Eva & Ada went to the Depot near our home. they did not come in that train or route. We then left Ada at home and went to the other Depot and just got in time when the Cars stopped. This was Sister Virginia David 2 Children Mattie & Jamie and White [[Masy??]] St John. they looked very well. David lost his Hat and went bare headed. I rode up with them in Omnibus - had Breakfast early all very glad to see them. |
