Sunday June 16. 1861.
Sunday, June 10, 1861


A lovely morning - [[unclear]] gone to Mr. Haywoods Sunday School.  Belle much better this morning - no Fever.  I hope to go to Church.  Pa received a letter from Joe he is at [[unclear]] at Cleveland, his wife & child met him at Cincinnati and have gone [[unclear]] too.  I will [[unclear]] Mr. Badger to days all [[unclear]] us [[unclear]] but Bellehow my heart aches at the thought that [[unclear]] next I am to leave Kentucky - and make my home in Chicagoa strange place leave all my devoted relations [[unclear]] here - it is the first time we have ever been separated except for a little while, it is my [[unclear]].  I feel [[unclear]] to the dark.  I have lived in Louisville since I was two years.  My poor Mother is getting old and in delicate health - She will feel it badly. Our beautiful home. built one year agowith every comfort. all planned by my husband, we will sellit has [[unclear]] all over, even in third story - [[unclear]] the same - Speaking [[unclear]] - Bowling alley a very fine one - Billiard room. white Marble Steps in front - everything is beautiful. a very large yard on all sides - and in a delightful neighborhood.  but my husband think he can do business so much better in Chicago - So I suppose it is all for the best.  [[unclear]] went to Church / Christ Church) - Virginia brought us home in her Carriage - Belle was very well all untill 6 O clock when her pain returned. and she had slight Fever.  [[Octavia?]] came [[unclear]] see me so did David.

Our beautiful house built one year ago with every comfort, all planned by my husband, we will sell - it has water all over, even in the third story - [[unclear]] the same - [[unclear]][[unclear]] bowling alley a very fine one - Billiard room, white marble steps in front - everything is beautiful. A large yard on all sides - and in a delightful neighborhood.  But my husband thinks he can business so much better in Chicago so I suppose it is all for the best.  I and Ada went to Church/Christ ChurchVirginia brought us home in her carriage.  Belle was very well all until 6 O'Clock when her pain returned and she had slight Fever.  Octavus came to see me so did David.

I will pack trunk to dayMr. [[Bogen?]] came at 10 Oclock to see Belle, he says she must not go to morrow.  he would not let her get [[unclear]].  [[unclear name]] & Ellenor [[unclear]] came to see us also Mrs Sam Page & Dellia - little [[unclear]] Mattie [[Faulds?]] spent day with us.  Siss came to see me and took Ada home to dinner. I went and took a ride with [[unclear]] & five Oclock, the excitement in regard to [[unclear]] Ferry has changed - the Southern or rebel [[unclear]] have the last 2 days evacuated the forthearing that the [[Northerns?]] or Government troops were about to surround [[Winchester?]], and cut off their retreat or supplies to Richmond Capitol of Virginiathey destroyed all everything that was worth having at the fort - about a million dollars worth of Provisions [[Ammunitions?]] [[unclear]] I fear we will have dreadful times.

Today is as beautiful as October.  I went out with Jill to ride - Sister in Law [[Licinia?]] came to see us.  Sister [[Virginia?]] & children came to see me.  Dr. [[Boyers?]] came to see Belle says she cannot go to morrowshe is better to day - Mrs. [[unclear]] Lane & Mrs. Dr. [[L.P?]] Blackburn came to see mealso Sister Licinia & [[Octavia?]].  Belle got up at 12 Oclock and [[dressed?]].  She said she felt very well.  I went riding in afternoon. with Virginia  Eva went to see Mrs. Wilder & Molly Van Buren, then to Tea with May [[Anderson?]].  Tea [[Brocck?]]

Another lovely morning, quite cool.  Children gone to see Grandma. Belle has slight FeverThe men are here packing our Mirror & Cornices.  I don;t think Belle will be well enough to travel tomorrow. I will pack trunks todayDr. Boyer came at 10 O'clock to see Belle, he says she must not go tomorrow - he would not let her get upMrs. Henrietta [[Ornsby?]] & Ellenor [[unclear]] came to see us also Mrs. Sam Page & Dellia - little Cousin Mattie [[unclear]] spent day with us.  Sis came to see me and took Ada home to dinner.
