to me, that in that vicinity, a Company of Cavalry could be made as useful, as at any point, I know of. Most of the depredations have been committed this side of Fort Clark.

I wish you to consider this, and if you determine, that it is advisable, send a Company to Establish a Camp near old Fort Inge, or any other point, thought better adapted for the purpose. Mr. Bryan, the Sheriff, and Mr. Spencer, Clerk of the District Court are recommended as proper persons to apply to, for information. Mr. Bryan offers land for Camp - free of rent - should you so advise and think it could be made more useful about Fort Clark. The Cavalry Company on its way from Fort Quitman may be retained with you, for the present.
Write concerning it. Major Morrow will go to McIntosh.
If you send a Company to Uvalde, send an Officer of common sense, who will get into no useless troubles with citizens.
                                                                 Very respectfully
                                                                    Your obdt. servant
