Alas!  John B. Gough - that soldier of the Lord is NOT in Webster's Biographical - but 2 other Goughs are - soldiers of that Profane Cause  - The British Empire!  It's pronounced "GoF."

"From accurate accounts kept I find that from May 14, 1843 to June 1, 1869, I have delivered six thousand and sixty-four addresses and traveled two hundred and seventy two thousand two hundred and thirty-five miles, independent of all traveling for pleasure, or on occasions not connected with my work."
From these prodigious figures you can see what a task lies before me, your fellow-evangelist if I am to properly answer to the name "The Gough of Hull House."!
Of course brother Gough is speaking of a twenty-six year span (1843-1869).  I shan't be sober 26 years until Oct. 1968 - nor in AA 26 years until June 17, 1969.  The latter date
