After | After a long captivity in Mexico, the greater number returned to Texas; & some of them joined the Expedition under Somerville to the Rio Grande - The 'War Party' part crossed the Rio Grande & fought the [[?]] of [[?]], they had the best of it, but somehow or other they entered into a capitulation with the Mexicans to permit them to return to Texas. | ||
The Mexicans made prisoners of War of them, & whilst marching the larger part them into the interior the [[?]] on their guards, killed some & effected their escape. They were re-captured, when Santana ordered them all to be shot; this was protested against on the score of humanity by the U. S. & the British Minister, but the sanguinary Santana decimated them, shooting 17 or 18 | |||
