S.W. in a slough some mosquitos 6 miles this a chaparal [[bating?]] round to the Rio Frio again - very pretty, but now the Stream is more placid & less of it - By map in straight line 17 m from Presidio rd - Hancock makes it 15 thus we are below, but from the quiet state of the stream it may be possible we are above the Arroyo de Uvalde - Large trout in river - Greene & James went down the river & found the Arroyo de Uvalde^ called by the Muleteers El Sabinal 400 yards below us -Trout Camp from the [[?]] to the pool of river^ somewhat differ from English trout - It is heard that there are great quantities of Cypress^ & Cedar on the Arroyo de Uvalde, during the Freshets, could be floated down easily into the Frio into the Nueces & to the coast - When freshets run then there are no falls in the rivers - Land [[?]] & under it beds of undulated Sand & rounded pebbles |
