Saturday April 30. A few citizens gave a Chowder party of some 7 or 8 of the Heroes of St. Jacinto - General LaMar happening to be here - The Beulah [[?]] Capt Wood - [[?]]
McCormack Kennedy, [[?]] Cobb and a few invitees [[?]].  This party was held at Hockleys fort - in what was formerly used as the powder Magazine.  As we arrived at 3 PM Some of the party were preparing the chowder - That is - they had caught some fish & then had some [[?]] etc - first some fat pork & [3 unclear words] in the ham that then taken out - the layers of fish, potatoes, onions pork & [[?]], with plenty pepper & salt & a [[?]] water - and boiled for say an hour & then the 'Chowder' is an American Version of Jamaican with improvements heads for the table - during this lengthy cooking - a drenching rain came on, and put the fire out - It soon cleared off - Eastman appropriated a Spoon & plate & having pretty good
