Sunday 17.  7 am Started - The Prairies drawing off - roads very wet -  Had to Swim Cypress Bayou - Roads bad to Houston around 2 pm. heavy rain - Swam the Horses over [[?]] creek - We passed on a log - A few days since some 700 Troops & Kickapoos attacked some 200 of our Volunteers at Lipantitlan near St. Patricia - they came off Second best - Our Volunteers arrived  Lt Davis Kellog & [[?]] & taking some prisoners  The Enemy returned & it is supposed to be reinforced - we ought to reinforce likewise.  There may be [[?]] in the grass this fall -
