x Cotton this year can be taken per Steamer to places ? 2 per bales
A. If Cotton was high say 12 to 15 cents, then the Farmer ? planters would be remunerated, but with the present low prices, the planter loses by his crops, particularly those who are near some of the Rivers & whose lands are subject to overflows. It is better for the planter when he can refose? confidence in his Merchant who supplies him with Buggey?, rope, groceries &c &c to sell to him, rather than ship on his own account for many seasons.
on side: The Merchant also has to take care that the Planter be a good man.
