Attended Masonic [?] held at the Presbiterian Church - There are already 20 Lodges in Texas  Spirited Choristers - Then went to Masonic dinner - Brother Saml Williams in the chair.
[?] & [?] of U. S. Volunteers left for Corpus Christi - rather disorganized - they are a queer lots of fellows - There is some squabbling at C. Christi among the Volunteers - too many want to command - It is not judicious to have Volunteers inactive - keep them into action - if not they add to the plagues in a Country - viz lawyers, Doctors, parsons, politicians & Mosquitos.
Saturday 25.  The Extraordinary Session of Congress meets on [?Monday?] next at Houston - Some soldier [?parties?] are for invasion of Mexico by land - With what force - we have in this country & Volunteers from the States.  We have no [?] money & bad credit.  With cash much [?wanted?] & [?dear?]. Then the naval party say - We are ready for Sea & can manage to be in readiness in a few days - We will blockade & annoy these ports - thus we should draw off troops from the frontier to the coast...Some think we go the whole
