General Probably written by Hugh McLeod
San Antonio. written in the ruins of the Alamo x
Antonio hail! Thy heavy ages x
Tells sadly of the past;
For thy dark tale on history's page
Runs blood from first to last _______
Thy crumbling walls, thy ruined towers,
dark monuments, remain,
Of contest fierce 'twixt adverse powers
And countless numbers slain _____
Nor is it strange, ev'en from the first
Thy destinie's were given
To cowl-capp'd Monks of blood accurst,
Who mock'd at God in heaven.
The Almighty in his wrath
Smote with avenging hand,
And bloody carnage strew'd each path,
In thy devoted land. _____
'Tis sorrowful to see now,
Thy rich luxuriant soil
The scene of nought but strife & woe,
And savage Indian broil. ______
Even when I stand, thy Alamo
Is crimson'd with the blood
Of the brave, who battled with the foe
When tens to thousands stood
