Got out of camp a little after 7 am. cold. ice plenty in camp this am Road today very good considering the country which is an extra difficult one The canon of lake fork is a very curious one There is no "bottom" to the creek that is no low lands on each side from top to top of mountains on each side hill average scarcely three miles & these summits are from 1000 to 5000 feet above the water the bed of this huge gulch was some time nearly [[here?]] and about 200 Ft above the present bed of the stream through this old bed the present stream has cut a channel with [[almost?]] [[perpendicular?]] sides indeed They may with [[fresh?]] be called [[perpendicular?]] for 4/5ths of the entire can~on is abrupt [[rock?]]
