the 7. Being informed that the Wantat had a mind to go

        back again to the French, & had endeavoured to take
        the Delawares along with them to reccommend them
        to the French, I sent Andrew to Beaver Creek with
        a string of Wampom, to inform himself of the truth
        of the matter. They sent a string in answer to let me
        know they had no correspondence that way with the
        Wantats, & the foresaid report was false.

the 8. Had a council with the chiefs of the Wantats; inquired

         their number, & what made them come away from the
         French, what correspondence they had with the Six
        Nations - and whether or no they ever had any correspondence
        with the Government of New York. They informed
        their coming away from the French was owing
        to the hard usage they received of them - they would 
        always get their young people to go to war against
        their (the French) enemies, & would use them as their own
        people, that is, like slaves & their goods were so dear
        they (the Indians) could not buy them.
