Parker's. Oct. 15 49. Joseph, Your Letter of Oct 3~8, Mailed Oct 11 is just this day received, the very day when you wished an answer returned to Milo, which of course you will not get. Mr. Collamer's Mails you know have the reputation of being awful contrary: this is especially the case undoubtedly in N.H. where the people generally excel greatly naturally in contrariety and all manner of ugliness. This Old Granite State you know is considered a "good place to move from" Well, it is a habit they have of all the decent ones moving off. Those left at home are not much boasting of, any more than the soil, whoever the Vermonter said the hard pan came up to the second rail of the fences. In justice I ought however to add that west of the mountains there seems to be quite an improvement in the stock. So much better are they that I was quite struck with the contrast on coming back from my survey.

I do not think you had better go to a Water Cure Establishment. I think you can obtain all the advantages in your case to be derived from the Treatment, and without the risk trouble & danger. The great thing for your cure is undoubtedly a State of extreme rest perfect quiet and without doubt much time.

Fatigue on accident in travelling to a Water Cure Estatablishment might put you back a whole year of the best treatment. Your present symptoms I should judge extremely favorable, the most so possible. What is plainer than that the Sitz bath i.e. is driving the disease out of your Spine, naturally occasioning a temporary weakness in leg & arm?
