Kindness & great politeness I could very readily discern which his character & disposition was; indeed, before I had conversed many minutes with him he began to urge my speedy removal from the place & took great pains to make me feel the support he had "in high places" & what the "policy of the State" was towards the Indians. This was on Sabbath in the presence of an unusually large assemblage of Cherokees. Next day the remaining two claimants sold their right to said Bishop - & now he was sold Lord & claimant of the far known "Spring place station". On this day I commenced my retreat to M'Nairs on the Connessauga & in 6 days all our effects, including stock of every description were beyond the limits f the State of Georgia.   Since that period Bishop has kept the Mission building in possession. The Chapel has been used for several years as a court house & the dwelling house for a Tavern. Grog shops have been opened on the premises - & in the vicinity, & the once venerable spot has become a hot bed of vice, to every manner of wickedness.   This my dear brother is a brief history of the event, the circumstances of which Mr P. desires to know. The affair at Vanns-wh place last [word smudged] sending parties bad recourse to weapons of death & were for a time, engaged in mortal combat. I have seen two different accounts of that affair - published in several of the Georgia papers & presume it is pretty generally known.  We are in the enjoyment of good health, for which our grateful acknowledgments are due to the Lord & our only desire is that the enjoyment of that blessing may enable us to labour with all diligence in the way of Duty.
