49 Sacred places and things The priests house was holier than other houses, and his door yard than others.

   The west half of the council house was holier than the other part, -- the space about the white seats was still more sacred, but the seventh. unclear and the space about it, holiest of all.
    Mountains were more sacred than low ground, & one mountain especially viz. Ke tru ho, holiest of all. On mountains the Na ne hi s live.
   The ground on the banks of rivers and on the sea shore was more holy than that back from the water. The Indians always had these houses of worship council houses etc. near water. 
   But the ground under the water was still more sacred than that on the shore.
    Towns & places of refuge were more sacred than because there no blood could be spilt.

   The Indians were more holy than other people because God chose them for his own people: and men are more holy than women.
    The priests were more holy than other men, their garments, than other garments, and their seats than other seats. They always washed before putting on their garments, and no common person must touch them or their white seats. Their pipes also were holy.
   The tsu ly sa ta were holy. No one must touch them on pain of death but the priest, nor must any woman person be instructed respecting them. 
    The holy fire was saved and must never be put to any common use -- no cooking by it, -- no lighting of torches -- and the coals must not be scattered on the ground.
    The ark was more holy than other vessels, because no common person must touch it, and the priest only could carry it when it contained the holy fire.  The altar, and the house for offering sacrifice were more holy than others hearths or houses. None but the priest could touch the alter of earth.
    The fire, ashes etc. of the sacrifice holy. None must touch them but the priest or his right hand man.
    The priests wives were more holy than other women, and their dress etc. than that of others.
