Your letter from Point Chautauqua post-marked July 31, but not dated is here Saturday- Its been terribly hot today with a hot wind blowing. The corn is mostly plum gone & beyond all help - no matter how much it rains. The thermometer goes over 100 every day. Maybe we can live thro the winter but more likely we will all dry up & blow away - Any way its getting pretty serious - I'm glad you folks have found a cool place but Kansas is not the only hot place. As you know if you see the papers - you say you had a letter from Mary Stanley & Gammon - is that it?- or what is that last name? Who is she & where is she? When you face the lake are you facing in what direction? Is the lake longest east-& west - and are you at which end of the lake or on the side of it somewhere? Maybe you have told me this some time before - Did you go thro to Westfield with out change? Are John Carrie in Washington now? Does Nette come direct to you from N.Y. or does she land where? and come to Chautauqua later? I went into the P.O. Thursday or maybe Friday morning and stood there waiting for the
