The tone of your letter is woe and dispassionate and pleads much more for your piety than a unclear discriminating Judgment. I hope and pray you may in Christian caution be persuaded to retreat, before you cause more disgrace on the Christian Name, and contempt on the missionary cause, and bring the U.S.'s gov't and the State in to a more sanguinary conflict.
