Out of a mound near the circle of the large fort at Circleville, was found the elk-horn handle of a small sword or long knife. Around the end where the blade had been inserted was a ferule of silver; no iron was found, but an oxyde remained. Also, charcoal & wood ashes, in which those articles lay, which were surrounded by several hicks?, very well burnt. A skeleton appeared to have been burnt in a very large & very hot fire, which had almost consumed the bones of the deceased. The skeleton was deposited a little to the south of the centre of the tumulus. And 20 feet to the north of it, was another. There was also a large mirror, three feet in length, one & a half in breadth and one inch and a half thick, It was of ising? glass. Also a plate of iron, which had become an oxyde; but before it was disturbed by the spade, resembled a plate of iron, This skeleton had been burned like the former, and lay in charcoal, and a considerable quantity of wood ashes.
