Passing more Jetties, these are formed of wooden posts driven down & a net work of cane laid over & between them & kept in place by stones. They then serve to obstruct the smaller channels & thus drive the water through deeper ones, for the passage of larger vessels. Passed a number of oyster men & fisher men cabins, put up on piles so as to keep them from floating off--Have seen the first Island in the Gulf about 10 acres. & half dozen trees. | ||
