The president's proclamation about Kansas received here, especially among Western men with contempt and scorn. It will not be easy for Frank Pierce to conquer us in the interest of Missouri, especially with so strong a feeling in the popular branch of Congress in our favor, and also among the masses of the people in the North. I have thought for some time that it would not be best for us to get a team this spring. If I can get one horse cheap, and you can help one, I shall do it. I do not know what help I shall need, because I do not know what it will cost. I shall not get a high-priced animal. It is costing us a good deal to have now, especially account of Sarah's continued illness. If we can get through this hard time, and get our health, I am not afraid but that we can get along here, and pay our debts. I think I can get a school with pretty fair ways next winter, and perhaps but not likely this summer. No more now. Love to all at home John.
