I went out a little to day -- we all well -- received letters from home -- at two O. clock I took all my children, and Brother Hilton Wife & four children all went with us to the Circus to see the trained Monkeys and dogs.  Mr A. Bigelow came to see us --

All day the wind has been high. at four O. clock a fire commenced on state street back of our house -- it swept a long distance consuming many houses -- then crossed the street and burned to the ground many on the opposite side -- then the flames swept[[ed?]] over our stable and I then sent to the Office for my husband who came right up. but our stable by that time was in flames -- the firemen worked nobly and very soon subdued it -- and we escaped without any other damage than the loss of stable and much dirt. my friends were very alarmed and rushed in and begged me to pack up -- but I was not much frightened and did very little -- my children were very much alarmed and cry very much -- Miss Carter rushed in and insisted upon my letting her pack up everything.  Mr James Miller and Rev [[?]]oney were very active -- and did all they could Mrs Bronson carried off the children to her house. all was confusion -- many have suffered and lost all they had -- most of the houses were frame -- and burned like tinder -- we allowed one family to put their things in our basement and gave them supper -- all the firemen Mr Badger treated to whiskey. after tea Father Badger Mother Badger Aunt Lizzie & Ella came to see us --

I cut out work all morning. Mr Badger came home early -- as he leaves for New York to night.  Ella Badger -- goes with him.  I went to depot with him -- and saw them off __
