It is very warm and dusty -- Sister Licinia and I went down to Mrs Hobsons.  as we were going into the store a man passed calling fire -- and it proved to be Mrs Hobsons Milliner store at the back a Carpenter shop burned down and scorched her back building[[s?]].  she was much frightened  they played a great deal of water on Bryan Hall which injures it some.  finally the Unitarian Church on Washington street -- of which Mr Thomas is the pastor caught, and burned to the ground.  a perfect wreck. we stood and saw it burn for a few minutes when a Hose pipe burst -- throwing water all over us.  we returned home then. and dressed ourselves and at five went to the Office -- got Walter & Octave and went round to the Tremont Hotel to dine with Mr Bigelow, he treated us handsomely -- and we came home again at eight o. clock  I went right to bed feeling bad from cold --

Saturday May 23rd
We all well and bright this morning.  received a letter from Mr Badger he arrived safe in New. York.  it rained a little -- but fear it may continue at eleven.  Ariana Generette and her two boys -- with Ella Badger came in to spend the day -- also Dora Allen with children  at five all our whole party went with me to Mrs Johnsons cream Saloon and I treated them then Mrs Generette, Ella, and two boys went out in Madison cars for their home  Mr Bigelow came and played cards.  a horse nearly ran over us down street and the screen in fireplace fell on baby --
Sunday May 24th
We had a chapter of incidents and accidents yesterday -- to complete all this Morning Flags are floating through the City -- they say Vicksburgh is taken by the federals.  I went with Licinia Belle & Eva to Mr Ryders Universalist church -- which they have kindly lent to us for a time untill our New church is finished -- Mr Bigelow walked home with us -- so did Mr Thomas.  at four O. clock we all -- nine in Number -- went out to Father Badgers. Mr Hilton came from Louisville this morning -- returned home to tea.  left Licinia and children and brought Ella home with us.  Mr Bigelow and Octave went to night church with us.  Mr Thomas preached a Commemorative sermon on the old church.  it was good.

Mrs Allport -- Miss Whitehouse & brothers? came to see me -- also Mrs Penton -- I went down street and bought baby a new Carriage some table linen door mats -- lace for Vestibule door -- Mr & Mrs Thomas spent evening with us Licinia & children here,

Thursday May 21st

I rose early -- went to Mrs Hobsons got her to make Mattie Faulds & Shreve new hats -- ordered some Photographs of Mattie Belle, and returned home. found Licinia Alice & Florence at our house to spend some days. I went with our guests and my two children down town, me Mr Thomas & Mr Bigelow -- they walked with us, I took my party to Mrs Johnsons Ice cream Saloon. Mr Bigelow took us all to see his house on Mich where he keeps bachelors hall. we then walked home. Mr Bigelow took tea with us, and spent the evening. Young Mr Ward called. Mrs Gurnee & Miss called and Mrs Hall -- baby commenced to day first time to walk round a chair)

Friday May 22nd
