We began our movement toward the left and arrived in the evening at a place known as Jerusalem Plank Rods near the Wilton Rail Road. Here our battalion advanced as Skirmishers, having moved through a piece of woods we were in plain view of the enemy's position. Capt. Farrell was evidently somewhat intoxicated, we took our position in the edge of the woods and dug pits where we remained all night. We had thus far lost only three men in this move. About daylight four pieces of artilery were brought up and took position on the left of our battalion and between it and the third brigade. As has been before stated just on our right was a strong out but there was no embrasures opened toward us. During the entire forenoon, we could see the rebels digging away and preparing the fort for firing down our lines meanwhile a few rebel soldiers were seen moving about in our front unclear going to the right at another to the left but our right was threatened by the fort and maneuvers seemed to indicate that they intended attacking us there. What were we doing all this time? were we acting like soldiers?
