Dear Son

I have opertunitities to send letters, but no time to write them, until we left St Paul? we was verry buisey, unclear to leave, and Settling with unclear gave unclear over unclear with Interest payable when we returned allowed him for all he said he had paid though he had no receipts to show that he had paid anything, 5 dollars he said he gave to Philips to buy candles and soap with but we have not seen Philips, candle nor soap, but we allowed it, and there we gave 3 dollars to have him carried back to St Paul? and glad to get him off our hands unclear. I get about with Ben and Jesse first rate, they are willing to bear their proportion of all the unclear, and that is all I ask. We have had good health the most of the time since I wrote but there has been many Deaths in some of the companies mostly of cholery?, some 6 or 8? have shot themselves pulling their guns from their waggons. Our company don't allow of Guns of Pistols to be carried in the waggons with the caps on We have 20 waggons and 60 men in our company, we generly start in the morning at 6 oclock travel til 11 stop 1/2 hours then travel til from 5 to 6, we drive our waggons at night in a circle leaving a hollow about 5 rods in diameter
