February, Friday, 6. 1863. Beautiful day. Sun shines bright & warm as in April in the North. Wrote a long letter to Sherman. Beside this did but little. Everything quiet as usual Rumors of our being ordered back to Memphis.

Saturday, 7. Another very mild pleasant day. Rode out [[designing?]] to go West to more of the plantation but could not get across the Slough. Ordered ?? readiness to make ready to embark our steamers up the river. Had a long conversation with Col. [[Censki?]] about trial Judges &c.
Sunday, 8. To day embarked on board steamers & are bound up the river to Lake Providence. Will not start until to morrow it is thought. Take my old room on the boat and enjoy in old amenities
