Sinners of Mkd. do not understand it any more than St. Paul did before he became a Chn. He sd. he was alive without t law once; But how was he alive without t law? he was a strict observer of it externally. He was alive in his sins & was without a sense of t. spirituality of t law. He thought that he did keep t law, but t fact was he did not understand t law & was blind to its meaning & instead of fulflling it as he supposed he was doing only what all sinners do (ie) attend to t externals of t law as a foundation of Justification before G.; he was alive therefore His heart was bad he did good in order to prove unclear good. So sinners now may really do to others in many instances as they would that others should do to them; and yet be as for fr t rule as t temper of natural men is fr t temper of Ct., if their heart is bad, they do it only on t footing of doing good that they might receive as much again with in this world or t next in wh. Ct expressly declares there is no virtue.
