Freeman wishes me to thank you for the papers you sent. We received the [[Fairhaven?]] papers this [[unclear]]. Last week I had a letter from one of the ladies at Ft. Custer saying that the 17th Infantry (four companies) were ordered away from there and were going to Fort Russell [[unclear]] [[unclear]]. After disposing of all their household goods and being all ready to go, the order was countermanded and they remain. So a lady from there told me yesterday. Quite a dilemma right in the heat of the season. I am sure I have tried your patience with this long letter. I hope Eliza is better.
