Myself with 2 others crossed the river twas cold  & windy & I never suffered more in my life in crossing one of us Nate came near drowning - the south side of Platte a hard looking hole alkali & no feed  Uncle Sam's boys looked quite spruce in their uniforms with their [[pop?]] guns a few cannon on wagons standing in the plaza was all I saw of note  [[unclear]] [[unclear]] post office also - coming back had to throw away my coat to keep from drowning lost my purse every cent I had in it & now I am strapped  I am likely to be for months saw a dead squaw rolled up in a buffalo robe lying on the bank of Platte & lots of other curiosities camped on P-    Distance 4 mi
