It has occurred to me, that the Cavalry Company at Fort McIntosh might be made more useful, if put in Camp at some point near the settlements in the Nueces Valley, say near the Pena or Cariso, - to be supplied from Fort Duncan. From this Camp, which should be made known to the settlers, scouting could be done along the front of the settlements, and have the Cavalry Company at Duncan free to scout in other directions. Will you please, give me your views on this subject, drawn from your observations of the matters in that vicinity. I should want this Camp kept up all winter, or as long as the weather would permit, and should frequently change the Company there, with the Cavalry Company at Duncan. I am, very truly Yours (Sgd) C.
