I spoke with Genl Potter this morning in reference to the subject of my last letter to you, and am induced by his approval & advice to write again. | I spoke with Genl Potter this morning in reference to the subject of my last letter to you, and am induced by his approval & advice to write again. As temporary Commander of this post, I feel a hesitation in making any radical changes, exactly as if in Comd. of any Regt. while the true & proper Commdr. was on a duty [[?]] leave. Again I am not quire sure of my ground, The Qr. Mrs. Dept has in the last few years made such strides toward independence of all Line [underline] Commanders that I am not yet satisfied as to what is expected or required or me. In old times orders were given to post Quarter Masters through Post Commanders. Now orders come direct to the post Quarter Master, sometimes countering orders issued by me. | ||
