August 9, 1969 View of the San Gabriel Valley from the site of the Twelfth Station. Mater Dolorosa Retreat Passionist Fathers Sierra Madre, California Dear Prof. Jack Conroy, I am very sorry that I could not meet you. Yesterday we, my husband and I, arrived at Kansas City and got a rent-a-car and tried to reach you, but we couldn't. Unfortunately I cannot drive a car and my husband's schedule is so tight. Today I sent you a little souvenir which I brought for you from Japan. That is a Japanese fan made by silk and bamboo. I hop you like it.
