in pencil in top margin Rogers, John C.

Sep. 25, 1978 Jack oboy oboy:

What makes you think the Alexandria Library carries Soviet Life? It carries a magazine from the Peoples Republic of China, but nothing so subversive as a Soviet publication. Did you get my card with the "421" address? I thought so, a renowned writer like you. I'll try and get an address for you, if I have to call the Soviet Embassy, after all I was once suspected of being a known subversive and I still have a warm spot in my heart for things Soviet. I suspect the mag is published in New York. But old Rogers will deliver the address.
Guess Old Judy has kicked the bucket - he don't answer you and he don't answer me. A good guy gone.
The old haunts at North Garden were not much - I went into the Brass Rail in downtown Charlottesville, and had me five Bud's - thought that was the least I could do to boost the economy, which was booming with a new Mall, etc. Met a guy I hadn't seen for some 20 years - a miller from North Garden. He was prosperous and worried about the future - he thought we were being sold out to the Communists! Letting all those Viet Nam into the USA!
