The Cosmic Kid and Jimmy got into a fight (imagine!) in New Jersey in some radical demonstration during the

Depression. Both would up in court, where Jimmy told the court "This man (Cosmic) isn't even a citizen." Jack was able to smooth out the situation, so both were released. Cosmic told me the story. Little did Jimmy or Jack realize that neither of them were citizens! Jack did try to establish american citizenship but had nothing to go on. Jimmy was desperate during the McCarthy days, and I was one he gave as character reference.

P.P.S. I've written to my congressman /and senator/ protesting the big defense budget, also inflation and registration for the draft. Thurber's drawings - supposedly to pay a 'marker' or bar bill are on Tim Costello's walls in his bar on Third Ave near 44th. I've eaten there and have seen the drawings. I was born on Third Ave a mile south. Jimmy Durante was born near where I was.
