Jimmy Sheriden might come along? Don't be afraid to say no to one or both. Jimmy just had to get tanked up, though not too obviously, as the funeral day, Tuesday, the only one tanked at this doings. (His first ride in a Cadillac - funeral car). Most others there were M.E. people, as my wife was a church worker in Normal Park (despite all I could do) for a few years. Mrs. Waltmire, wife - crossed out widow of the M.E. preacher we knew so well during the Depression, came in from Iowa. she stayed with us two weeks in Maidstone, summer of 1966. You may recall that Waltmire was the most active clergyman in the unemployed movement, and spoke the the oration at the funeral services for the slain steel workers of the infamous Memorial Day affair.
Also, a switchman I worked with 40 years ago came from out of the past to give condolences and
renew acquaintance. Heaps of flowers - the people of "The garden of England" would have said "Good Show", as the funeral was done right - Got the service through the Chicago Memorial Service, which recommends low- cost funerals. I must have saved considerably, though nothing was spared and have ordered a suitable headstone - mainly for others. |_ Regards, Mead
