  31st. We have reports that Alimante the Mexican Minister, has demanded his passports from the U.S. Govt owing to its intrigues
relative to annexation & that the British Minister has protested against such a measure.
  A few days since Cols. Williams & Hockley returned from Sabinas some 40 miles W. of the Rio Grande, not having effected^all the objects of their
mission, owing to this new phase of annexation.
