Mexicans under Gl Hill is that - Santana behind him to be a smart officer - P to have cross the Rio Grande with 12 to 15,000 Men - go through San Antonio make prisoners - & importantly as the terms the Assizes or Courts were sitting - We had no troops nor spies even on the frontier & this from 40 or 50 more captured.    Work now finished on to the Colorado in the hope of crossing it - taking Austin for 24 hours destroying it, & further documents if found & then retreating as quick as possible to Mexico chanting victory - That the Colorado would not permit the Enemy to pass, that our brave Volunteers, a handful of them began to worry the Enemy under [[?Cal....?]],  Barbosa & [[?]] but not before the Lafayette Company of Volunteers from LaGrange had been nearly cut to pieces - they being alone & Some 50 or 60 of them only - [[?]] got back to San Antonio with his wounded having some 100 or 150 of his followers [[?]] to [[?]], after being there some days, it would appear he has retreated to the Rio Medina.  [[?]] forces watching him closely - It is not the general impression that the long talked of "General invasion" is to come from [[2 unclear words]]
