Christi they made their Encampment at Sandiplan some 35 miles from C.C on the opposite side of the River - Gl D. had twenty in formation of Gl Canalis coming on with 700 men 500 Cavalry & 200 Infantry - where he had taken up his headquarters was not a good position & he removed a short distance into a dell, leaving his baggage, papers etc - This was [?] - the Enemy attacked - was beaten back, leaving [?] Hills with 20 wounded & some prisoners but took all the Texan baggage etc - This they would construe into a Victory altho they lost some dozen or more & a few prisoners taken - The Texans not one - The enemy to other [?] of [?] -& a few [?] in [?] towards C. Christi they are approbably some 5000 Soldiers & Ranchers on the Frontier & the Volunteers are at Salhar having been join by some 260 who went from here some later time since. It is presumed that for the present Canalis will remain at C. Christi | ||
