During that last winter Marion was in
the third grade of The Latin School, just around
the corner from us, on Division Street. She was
considered old enough to go back and forth by
herself while I as a beginner still in kindergarten,
had to be brought & called for by the nurse.
This arrangement permitted my sister to qualify
for the racy life of the shops around the
corner where you could get candy, chewing gum
and dill pickles and for the alleys of our area
where you went in the company of your peers
