May 18, 1941. Just Read a letter from E Harriett Donlevy Cors Sec. for the World Wide Broadcasting Foundation telling me Professor Scammell after 5 months, had turned my letter over to these to answer. She said he is a full-time professor at Boston [[unclear]], a Lay Preacher and a broadcaster and hasn't time to do all the things he wants to do. She wrote "your story of the pewter mug was delightful. Perhaps more so to me because I collect early American pewter and have quite a collection for an amateur, and one who must collect thriftily. I have no glass-bottom mugs, but several small mugs and a communion cup and chalice. Please don't question too much the Charlie Dickens story of your good friend Sheammus- it adds such flavor to the cup". Then follows the usual spiel for contributions to the Foundation and she says she is sending me the May schedule, which I'm very glad to get. Would send them a dollar if I had one to spare. | |||
