Dear Mary and Cynthia,
It is a long time since I have written to you and I am neither down-sick nor up well today I thought I would write you at least a short letter. I was very sick this time and last time. These hard spells seem to wear on me a good deal, it is slow work to rally after them and I dont think I feel as well and strong through the month. I fear, M. D. , that the medicine you told me to take has lost its effect upon me. I am some afraid there is some disease in my bowels; they seem to suffer so much, but if there is it has the good sense not to shew itself (of any account) only on these exciting occasions. If my writing does not

These hard spells seem to wear on me a good deal, it is slow work to rally after them and I dont think I feel as well and strong through the month. I fear, M.D. , that the medicine you told me to take has lost its effect upon me. I am some afraid there is some disease in my bowels; they seem to suffer so much, but if there is it has the good sense not to shew itself (of any account) only on these exciting occasions. If my writing does not
