We the people of that portion of the New= York Indians, lately removed from New York, and settled upon lands purchased by us from our Brethren the Menominies here, and conformed by the president of the U. | We the people of that portion of the New= York Indians, lately removed from New=York, and settled upon lands purchased by us from our Brethren the Menominies here, and conformed by the president of the U. States. ____ beg leave humbly to represent to your Honourable Body, that one G̲e̲o̲r̲g̲e̲ ̲J̲o̲h̲n̲s̲o̲n̲ has laid claims to a portion of the lands embraced in one of our treaties; that he claims them under an act of 1812, for granting these lands to the occupants, which have been improved since that time; but that the tract which he specifies has not been occupied or improved as the law directs, and consequently cannot come within the meaning of the act __ Wherefore we hope the subject may while under your inspection be thoroughly investigated. We would further represent that the said Johnson pretends to have acquired his claims in validity of a purchase made of one Pierre Carboneau:____ and that he proves, to the commissioners for examining said claims, the t̲i̲m̲e̲ of said C̲a̲r̲b̲o̲n̲e̲a̲u̲'̲s̲ occupancy & improvement of said lands, by the Testimony of one Francis St. Roque. | ||
