The place being very stony we could not dig a grave, and he smell'd very strong; we laid him between two old logs + covered him with stones + wood, and cut a great many saplings over him, & went on our journey. the 25. Crossed Kiskyminity River. Came to Ohio that day. --- 20. the 26. Hired a canoe, paid 1000 black Wampom for the loan of it to Loystown, our horses being all tired. We went by water & came that night to a Delaware town, the Indians used us very kindly. the 27. Set off again in the morning early, by rainy weather. Dined in a Sinicker* town where an old Sinicker woman reigns with great authority, in her house we dined & they all used us very well. At this & the last mentioned Delaware towns they received us by firing off a great many guns, especially at this last place. We had saluted the towns by firing off four pair of pistols. Arrived that evening in Loystown, we saluted the town as before, & they the Indians fired above 100 guns, & great rejoicing appeared in their countenances. From the
