Dear Brother. [This?] day is Jan. 29th This day after so long, have I have I received my wages for the months of Nov & Enclosed you will find. Fitchburg Bank XX.  Letter E. [?] E. [Torrey?] [?...]. July [2?] 1845  Mr. Perkins Prest.  Of which $15.00 is you. on Note, and interest probably some.  Then that [Value?] yours which I have.  If ther is "any thing over" the "Six Lectures on the Uses of the Lungs" by Samuel Sheldon. If the book has another title it is 'Causes & Cure of [Consum?].  Remember, I am particular about the book.  It may save [valu?] Probable cost $.50 cent, on thence forward to a dollar.

Unfinished Rail roads are "all of a heap". drawing the business short as much as possible on this road they have even missed part of the Engineering Corps.  I may congratulate myself upon being retained while others longer in service who might reasonably be supposed better are discharged.  However the last rumor is that the prospect is they will be unable to weather it , will have to stop altogether.  That would course throw Engineer as well as all others out of Employ, and might expect to see me down East before long.  But I guess they will continue somehow to keep along, and probably if any do. If I thought a total [[? page folded over]] probable I do not know but I should send you $40. instead of $25.00 I must spend $20 or so in clothing    &c. And I was intending to direct $25.00 or 30.00 to purchase of Mathematical Instruments Engineer Books &c.  Perhaps I better not do it until Times are surer.
