Dear Folks! I had a letter written I was going to send by Charles, as I told you I most unfortunately lost it somehow or other. However there was no name to it any way, so if any one post it it will do them no good. By the way, I lost Lucy's beautifull excellent pen, I dont know how, when I first came here, Beg her pardon. Again there is no kind of a Table in our room, and no chance to wrote 'ceptin' on a book or so, without going down into the Reading room, 'mongst folk. Another time I dont ever have any time to write. I dont know as it would be worth the while to write over again what I wrote before even if I could and could remember.

  Yesterday my economy be having been overcome Ann's arguments and et ceteras, I spent upwards of $8,00,  of which I almost repent already, some of it.
  I bought A Cloth Cap $1,50, a pr. of Drilling Shirts - for $1,50, A Ready Made Vest - $, 87 1/2, 1/2 Doz. of Linen Collars - $1,00. I had bought before an India rubber hat and a pr. of Suspenders etc.etc.etc. Oil cloth Jacket ?, 75  I have rec'd for my work but $6,75, as yet, about 9 Dollars more due. The Company, Cushing and Sheldon, that is just as good as gold, I suppose, & perfectly willing to pay all their hands in Cash. and do frequently when any one wants money for immediate use now, before work is done.

Sheldon has a store here and likes to pay the men out of that. for the sake of selling goods, you know. So they say and I guess 'twas so I told Eldridge yesterday that I wanted some money & he gave me a 1.00 Bill and told me I might take up as I pleased at the Store, at Cash price, exactly. I must have and got a Vest pattern $1,00 Silk handkerchief etc.,50 .

 Two men, Cushing  & Co of Frankfort and Sheldon of the Town? Kimball & Sheldon of N.York, both N. Yorkers, Kimball lives there and Sheldon here; have bought all the Logs in Kenduskeag to be delivered at Drummond Mill pond just above the City. The Sellers running them as far as there, doing the river driving. Our business is to take them there, turn then, out of the boom, over the Mill dam, down to the City, through 3 bridges, into our Boom, where we raft them together with a rigging, or rope, on wooden wedges. They are then run in the raft, to Cushing's to his mill in Frankfort, Sheldon's to Emerys Mill Hampden.  This is a Separate business, requires those who are
