Dear Mother and Brothers

  I know that I have been extremely remiss about writing lately, I guess that Ann has also, and I really think that you at home, both Mother and Joseph have not been very attentive to such matters this summer. I can hardly remember when we last heard from Milo, and then only little scraps or billets. On fact I do not know that I have received a real, good, oldfashioned letter, one whole sheet, during this term. Charles has been down here once or twice, but in such a hurry that I have had no time to talk to him. I want very much to know how every thing gets along nowadays, how Mother's health is this summer, how Charles' affairs look and prosper, how the Crops etc. are going to come in, which appears of some importance, even if they will sell for nothing; how the boys do and feel, work and play etc. etc. I most wish I was at home, whenever I think of it.
 Mr. Walker is doing great things this Summer. William A. Wingate, Housewright, with his Apprentice, Samuel Small, has been here to work most of the time since June 1st. and is not near done yet. The Painters have been here a good deal already, but have just begun. The House is to be new painted all over, inside and out, also the fences and barn etc. etc. etc. etc. I have been pretty busily employed most of the time out of School from July 3d, to July  13th, one week. I employed it principally at work for Mr. Walker, about the house etc. got to be quite a carpenter. Expect to be paid for it by him, dont know how much.  Worked pretty well, 13 hours per day.
 We have had a good deal of very hot, sultry, unhealthy weather here this summer. Such Weather is much worse here than a Milo, I think. Sweat 6 hours in the Schoolroom, go to work and Sweat, go to bed and lay awake and sweat; Hot, Sweaty, Tired, Sleepy, and foolish all the Time. Very poor time, weather, and Chance to Study much, at least to really learn much. James F.W. has been about 1/2 sick for sometime, a while ago, and alo is Sam, Small caprter.  And for 2 or 3 days past I have been most sick myself, neither worked or studied much. One awful hot day, got very hot indeed to work hard and then washing me in a hurry to go to School, cooled me so quick or something, that I caught cold I expect, and been not sick since
